This Gothic Photo Shoot Darmstadt featured Frida, whom I already knew from the local goth scene. I had photographed her several times at clubs and events before. Because I always admired her style and attention to detail, I asked if she would be interested in a dedicated gothic photo shoot. She immediately agreed, and we started planning the session together.

After discussing several ideas, we chose the Waldfriedhof in Darmstadt as our location. The historic cemetery offers impressive architecture, quiet pathways, and countless atmospheric settings. It was the perfect backdrop for gothic portrait photography. Once we had set a date, all we needed was good weather. Fortunately, everything worked out perfectly.

We began the photo shoot at an eye-catching bench that matched the mood we wanted to create. The first portraits turned out beautifully and helped us settle into a relaxed rhythm. From there, we explored different areas of the cemetery and searched for interesting locations.

One of our next stops was a pavilion with ivy-covered columns. The combination of stone architecture and greenery created a striking contrast with Frida’s gothic outfit. We also photographed near several historic graves and monuments, which added character and atmosphere to the images.

Atmospheric Gothic Portrait Photography

As we continued through the cemetery, we discovered a secluded grave surrounded by trees. The location felt hidden away from the rest of the world and provided a unique setting for several portraits. The natural framing created some of my favourite images from the entire session.

A little later, we found a pathway that looked almost like a catwalk. It was the ideal location for full-body portraits and fashion-inspired shots. Frida’s styling worked perfectly in this setting, and we took advantage of the long perspective the pathway offered.

To finish the session, we moved into a small mausoleum. The lighting and architecture created a dramatic atmosphere that perfectly suited the theme of the shoot. These final images became a fitting conclusion to the day.

A Successful Gothic Photo Shoot Darmstadt Experience

After around three hours of photography, we had captured a wide variety of images in several unique locations throughout Waldfriedhof Darmstadt. The Gothic Photo Shoot Darmstadt was both creative and enjoyable, and we were very happy with the final results.

I would like to thank Frida once again for trusting me during her first photo shoot. She did an excellent job in front of the camera and quickly felt comfortable throughout the session. Together, we created a memorable collection of gothic portraits in one of Darmstadt’s most atmospheric locations.

Portrait photography in Darmstadt: the Herrengarten

We started in the Herrengarten, under the plane trees in the middle of the city. Sarah sat with her notebook and a red pen. A leather bag rested in the grass beside her. Then we moved to a bench, still in the shade. The idea was simple. The pictures should feel like a quiet hour of writing, not like a posed shoot.

From the church steps to the TU library

After the park we walked to a small church nearby. Sarah sat on the sandstone steps and kept writing. The cobbles and the stone made a good change from the grass.

Then came the Prinz-Georg-Garten. She wrote on a curved stone bench, with hedges and late September leaves around her. The garden feels more formal than the Herrengarten, so the pictures changed pace with it.

Finally we went to the library at TU Darmstadt. Sarah sat on the floor between the shelves and filled another page. These frames are the closest to her work. Books behind her, notebook in her lap, and the same calm we had chased all afternoon.

[See image gallery at catchingmovement.de] At half past eight the Kids came on stage, together with their new drummer Leif. What can I say, it was a spectacle as I had hoped. BLUTHUND’s energy must have somehow stayed on stage and then transferred to the 8Kids. Jakob in particular kept running around from one side of the stage to the other, whether with or without a guitar. With Bordsteinrand right at the start, everyone was also shaken awake and people rushed in from the outside. The crowd trembled and formed a real mosh pit in the middle, which partly covered half the hall. With Der Weg there was also a Grönemeyer cover, in the middle there was WTF, my personal favorite song, not only because of the lyrics, but because it is just so gripping. As the concert was also the last of the tour, the BLUTHUND boys couldn’t help but bring a bengalo cake on stage with the text “BLUTHUND liebt 8KIDS” written on the inside lid of the package. They used that right away to perform Wir bleiben Kids together. Friendships were formed during the tour. A gorilla was also allowed to have a guitar fight with Hans. After 13 songs, the short “Encore Calls” break came, only to come back with one of the most socially critical songs, Dein Zuhause. But also Dämonen and Ich gehöre dir nicht are songs that make you think. The conclusion then came, fittingly with Zeit. After almost 1 1/2 hours, that was the end of a great evening that calls for a repeat. There will be at least one smaller possibility next Friday when the 8Kids play at the Traffic Jam Open Air.

[See image gallery at catchingmovement.de] Second came Pentastone who always wanted to play at the Metal Up Your Life. After the Phungo meets Metal Up Your Life 2021 already worked out in the summer and more or less counted as half, tonight was time for them to finally hit the usual Metal Up Your Life stage. You could tell that they were having fun and enjoying themselves, which resulted in a terrific performance.

[See image gallery at catchingmovement.de] As usual, the band behind the Metal Up Your Life played next to last, the band ALL WILL KNOW. I don’t have to waste a lot of words about the performance, it had its usual high quality. The encore was fun though, much to the annoyance of singer Steve, because they played Last Christmas, where Steve kept saying “I hate you”.

[See image gallery at catchingmovement.de] Headliner was the modern melodic death metal band Dieversity from Würzburg, for whom it was the first gig with the new singer Robin. A fact that neither the band, nor Robin, nor the performance showed.

1. Luxusbauten im Bürgerpark
Im Bürgerpark sollen Wohnungen gebaut werden. Luxuswohnungen. Dafür sollen Flächen versiegelt und ein Naherholungsgebiet zerstört werden. Ein hervorragendes Beispiel dafür, wie Klimagerechtigkeit nicht geht!

2. Planstraße A
Unterhalb der Lincoln-Siedlung soll eine neue Straße durch einen Wald gebaut werden. Wir können es uns nicht mehr leisten, neue Straßen zu bauen – wir brauchen ein völlig neues, klima- und sozialgerechtes Verkehrskonzept ohne neue Straßen. Denn mehr Straßen bedeuten mehr Verkehr!

3. Gewerbegebiet Nord
Im Rahmen des “Masterplans 2030” soll ein neues Gewerbegebiet zwischen Arheilgen und Wixhausen gebaut werden. Auch hier wird ein Naherholungsgebiet zerstört und es werden große Flächen versiegelt. Wir stellen uns klar gegen diese klimaschädliche Wachstumspolitik!

4. Rheinstraßenbrücke
Beim Neubau der baufälligen Rheinstraßenbrücke soll der Raum für Rad- und Fußverkehr zugunsten zwei weiterer Autospuren verkleinert werden. Wir brauchen nicht mehr Autospuren, sondern gut ausgebaute Radinfrastruktur und einen attraktiven ÖPNV!

With Her Fall is an alternative metal from Groß-Umstadt in the region. The band jumped in at short notice, after which the actual opener had to cancel. A solid performance which was fun for both the fans and the band itself. You could tell from reactions of the audience that they longed for a normal concert. Everyone was having fun and wanted to see more With Her Fall after the set, but unfortunately there was not enough time.

[See image gallery at catchingmovement.de] As second band on stage was one of the Krone home bands, the alternative metal band from Darmstadt, Pentastone. I was also able to see them at the Phungo Festival, right before Oversense and it was a pleasure to see them in a normal concert setting. Together with the audience, the band literally teared down the Krone. A real pleasure.

[See image gallery at catchingmovement.de] As the concert didn’t start until 10 p.m., it was already after midnight until the headliner Oversense finally came on stage. Somehow many slept through the beginning of the concert, but then quickly streamed back into the large hall of the Krone. And it was worth it for all viewers who stayed so long. The band put on another incomparable show, including an encore to the encore, which was not actually planned, but was pulled through because of the fans. For this, Danny left his guitar and rocked the stage with just his microphone.

[See image gallery at catchingmovement.de] To finish off, here a little outlook, you can see Pentastone on the 19th of November in Augsburg as a support band for Kalaska, tickets are available here. And on the 26th of November they play again at the Krone, where Kalaska then appears as support, together with the band Red Veil from Offenbach. I will be there again and provide you with pictures and a short report afterwards.

Oversense will also play three more shows this year, all three as the opening act for nobody other than Doro Pesch. On the 17th of November  in Frankfurt in the Batschkapp, on the 27th of November  in Neuruppin at the Kulturhaus and as the end of the tour on November the 28th in Hamburg in the location called Gruenspan.

At first played the duo He.artwork which are Sami (Singer) and Jascha (Guitar). They make acoustic music with a lot of heart and an incredible voice. Very entertaining and it is always worth to listen to them.

[See image gallery at catchingmovement.de] Next in line was the band Third Wave from Frankfurt, which plays Modern Metal, with some Metalcore influences. This time without their lead singer, because he was ill, but they still rocked.

[See image gallery at catchingmovement.de] Third band of the evening was ALL WILL KNOW, the band of the organizer Jan Jansohn. Playing fine melodic death metal with two singers and one shouter, they had their usual very strong outing to blow everybody away.

[See image gallery at catchingmovement.de] Words of Farewell was the headliner of the night. Coming from the German Ruhr District, they brought progressive melodic death metal to the evening. It was not their first appearance at the Metal Up Your Life, and just like last time, they delivered.
