Since there were so many bands, the concert started at a quarter to seven, earlier than announced, which is why I only caught the last few songs by Another Approach. I honestly found that a bit of a shame, because they delivered really solid progressive metal and didn’t shy away from interacting with the audience. Okay, that’s not difficult at Cafe Central anyway, but the bassist took a trip into the audience to play there. If you’re a fan of progressive metal, you definitely shouldn’t miss this band. One special thing to mention is their tradition at concerts. They always play the theme song from the Pokémon series as their last song. They did it again this time, and bassist Claudio threw plush Poké Balls into the audience.

[See image gallery at catchingmovement.de] The second band to take the stage was Blame Zeus from Portugal. Despite having been around for 15 years, this was the band’s first European tour and therefore completely new territory for them. But you could tell they were experienced, and it turned out to be a really good performance, with bassist Celso standing out in particular. It was also clear that the current line-up has been together for nine years, as the band members harmonized on stage and repeatedly joked around with each other, as far as the small stage allowed. The approximately 30 minutes of playing time flew by.

[See image gallery at catchingmovement.de] Then Rexoria from Sweden came on stage and things immediately became more colorful, accompanied by melodic power metal. Fast, catchy, melodic, they fulfilled all expectations. Headbanging at its finest, on and in front of the stage. Added to this was the absolutely powerful and stunning voice of singer Frida. As with Blame Zeus, you could tell that the musicians harmonized perfectly and had fun together. Unlike the others, however, Rexoria had been on tour in Europe several times and was now in Weinheim for the third time. As the third band, they were allowed to play a little longer, and I have to admit that every extra minute was worth it. The band definitely gained one more fan after their performance.

[See image gallery at catchingmovement.de] At a quarter to ten, the moment had finally arrived: the band everyone had come to see took to the stage. First came drummer Welyntom, bassist Johann, guitarist Juliano, and keyboardist Guto, kicking things off with Incinerate, just like the album does. Then Sergio came on and started his part, soon followed by Mizuho. They continued right away with Dark of the Day. But then they stopped following the album’s track list, because instead of What Lies Ahead, the band’s most successful song, they played Selfish Liar. They then played Mere Shadow from the album Obscura, the second most successful song in the band’s history. At least according to Spotify streaming figures. This was followed by all but three songs from Lunar Manifesto, as well as songs from Obscura and their latest album Vermilion Eclipse, which was released in 2022. The evening concluded with the long-awaited What Lies Ahead and the opener from Vermilion Eclipse, Enrage. Afterwards, Sergio and Mizuho came out to meet the fans and take photos with them.

Dynazty is a band from Sweden with front man Nils Molin, who you might know from his second band Amaranthe. So I was excited to see how it would be to see him on stage with Dynazty. But first there were three support bands who were allowed to build up the tension.

It all started with the American heavy metal band Holy Mother, which was founded in 1994. But then they took a longer break because singer Mike was suffering from stomach cancer. They came back in early 2021 with a new album and their first tour in a long time. I arrived just as the band was about to start. It was a cool show, very reminiscent of 80s/90s heavy metal icons like Judas Priest or Dio. There was also a homage to the latter with the cover of Holy Diver. In any case, the band heralded a worthy start to the evening.

[See image gallery at catchingmovement.de] The second band of the evening was Surma, from the Czech Republic, but with an Icelandic guitarist in the form of Heri Joensen, who is Tyr‘s singer. However, the band is named after singer and model Viktorie Surmová. The band only exists since 2018, with the first album being released in November 2020. The tour with Dynazty is therefore also the promotional tour for the album, due to the known circumstances. The band delivered a very good application for their album. You could tell they really enjoyed playing. It has to be mentioned that the performance almost didn’t take place, because Viktorie came back from the hospital shortly before the performance, where she had to be treated for burns on her legs, but the injuries were not noticeable in her performance, except for the bandages.

[See image gallery at catchingmovement.de] The third artists of the evening, like Surma, are also a symphonic metal band. We’re talking about none other than the Norwegian Sirenia around the French singer Emmanuelle Zoldan. I was also curious about how the performance would turn out, as I had only heard positive things so far. And my expectations were met. A very good, solid performance, with a terrific Emmanuelle took place. Here, too, you could tell, that the musicians were having fun, and really enjoyed to finally be able to be back on stage. The audience also returned it with much applause and cheers. At the end, Emmanuelle was able to sing a classic from her home country, Voyage Voyage by Desireless in a cool metal version.

[See image gallery at catchingmovement.de] Then it was finally time: Dynazty entered the stage. Since the stage is a bit smaller at the Café Central, it suddenly got really crowded, with 2 guitarists, a bassist and frontman Nils. The musicians couldn’t move much, but it was still an energetic show with a lot of audience interaction, movement in the same, fun, joy and sweat. The catchy melodies, paired with Nils great singing, caused a lot of hair to fly, as long as the space in the room allowed it. Because it was really crowded and narrow. After 75 minutes of stage show it was over at 11pm, 4 1/2 hours after the first tones of Holy Mother came out of the amplifiers. And with that, an all-round successful evening came to an end.

Once Awake:
They came from Bergen in Norway and opened the program with a very interesting mixture of Groove Metal and Metalcore. The fate of the first band, which hardly anyone knows, is usually not easy, but the five gentlemen mastered the challenge really confidently. Everyone gave full throttle and obviously had a lot of fun performing in front of an already well-filled hall. A more than worthy start of a very likeable band.

Second was Dagoba from Marseille, France. The group of four had their brand new album “By Night” with them and from the first second they really wanted to perform. Singer Shawter knew how to heat up the crowd, which had just as much fun as the band on stage. The mixture of groove and industrial metal was well received and celebrated in the form of moshpit and wall of death. It didn’t matter whether it was a new song or an old classic, it turned into an outstanding party.

Then it was time for the main act: the Metalcore Shooting Stars from Moldova around frontwoman Lena Scissorhands entered the stage. Like their French colleagues before them, Infected Rain had a new album in their luggage. “Ecdysis” was released at the beginning of January and now, after a postponement, is finally on a release tour. Although the sound sometimes seemed a bit overdriven, the band put on a quite respectable performance. Here, too, a circle pit and wall of death formed, this time supported by a stage diver.

[See image gallery at catchingmovement.de] All in all it was a really successful evening, all three bands demonstrated their live qualities and the audience was just as “On Fire”. For me personally, Once Awake were the new discovery of the evening. Confident on stage, musically high-quality and personally super likeable.
