Final Darkness October 2026

It is the monthly dark party on the third Saturday: Gothic, dark wave, future pop, and synth pop, with two resident DJs. The longer note on the club is in the May 2025 set. The previous night is 20 June 2026.

This Gothic Photo Shoot Darmstadt featured Frida, whom I already knew from the local goth scene. I had photographed her several times at clubs and events before. Because I always admired her style and attention to detail, I asked if she would be interested in a dedicated gothic photo shoot. She immediately agreed, and we started planning the session together.

After discussing several ideas, we chose the Waldfriedhof in Darmstadt as our location. The historic cemetery offers impressive architecture, quiet pathways, and countless atmospheric settings. It was the perfect backdrop for gothic portrait photography. Once we had set a date, all we needed was good weather. Fortunately, everything worked out perfectly.

We began the photo shoot at an eye-catching bench that matched the mood we wanted to create. The first portraits turned out beautifully and helped us settle into a relaxed rhythm. From there, we explored different areas of the cemetery and searched for interesting locations.

One of our next stops was a pavilion with ivy-covered columns. The combination of stone architecture and greenery created a striking contrast with Frida’s gothic outfit. We also photographed near several historic graves and monuments, which added character and atmosphere to the images.

Atmospheric Gothic Portrait Photography

As we continued through the cemetery, we discovered a secluded grave surrounded by trees. The location felt hidden away from the rest of the world and provided a unique setting for several portraits. The natural framing created some of my favourite images from the entire session.

A little later, we found a pathway that looked almost like a catwalk. It was the ideal location for full-body portraits and fashion-inspired shots. Frida’s styling worked perfectly in this setting, and we took advantage of the long perspective the pathway offered.

To finish the session, we moved into a small mausoleum. The lighting and architecture created a dramatic atmosphere that perfectly suited the theme of the shoot. These final images became a fitting conclusion to the day.

A Successful Gothic Photo Shoot Darmstadt Experience

After around three hours of photography, we had captured a wide variety of images in several unique locations throughout Waldfriedhof Darmstadt. The Gothic Photo Shoot Darmstadt was both creative and enjoyable, and we were very happy with the final results.

I would like to thank Frida once again for trusting me during her first photo shoot. She did an excellent job in front of the camera and quickly felt comfortable throughout the session. Together, we created a memorable collection of gothic portraits in one of Darmstadt’s most atmospheric locations.

Portrait photography in Darmstadt: the Herrengarten

We started in the Herrengarten, under the plane trees in the middle of the city. Sarah sat with her notebook and a red pen. A leather bag rested in the grass beside her. Then we moved to a bench, still in the shade. The idea was simple. The pictures should feel like a quiet hour of writing, not like a posed shoot.

From the church steps to the TU library

After the park we walked to a small church nearby. Sarah sat on the sandstone steps and kept writing. The cobbles and the stone made a good change from the grass.

Then came the Prinz-Georg-Garten. She wrote on a curved stone bench, with hedges and late September leaves around her. The garden feels more formal than the Herrengarten, so the pictures changed pace with it.

Finally we went to the library at TU Darmstadt. Sarah sat on the floor between the shelves and filled another page. These frames are the closest to her work. Books behind her, notebook in her lap, and the same calm we had chased all afternoon.

Anyone who has ever wondered how the Frankfurt music club Das BETT (now bett) got its distinctive name should remember its origins: From September 2005, Das Bett welcomed up to 80 visitors in a cozy and relaxed atmosphere in the Klappergasse in Sachsenhausen. Many of the artists from all over the world whom Das Bett, with its exceptional feel for music and the spirit of the times, managed to book for a show, simply stayed overnight on the upper floor of the BETT after their performance. With a musical program far removed from the mainstream, encompassing every conceivable musical style from cheerful electropop to wild garage rock, and offering a stage to both established underground stars and up-and-coming bands, Das BETT quickly established itself as one of Frankfurt’s most important cultural institutions. With the move of Das BETT to the western Gallus district in 2009, Das Bett team took a bold step towards change. The new venue in the Communications Factory, Schmidtstraße 12, now offers space for up to 500 attendees. Das Bett team will continue to strive to preserve the club’s “unpretentious charm” and philosophy: Das Bett remains committed to making a diverse and sophisticated arts and culture program accessible to everyone at affordable prices.

Founded in March 2019, Final Darkness (FD) is DAS BETT‘s new alternative party for fans of Gothic, Dark Wave, Future & Synth Pop, and everything else the dark scene has to offer. Initially launched as a party series at DAS BETT, it soon became clear that there was also a high demand for concerts within this scene in and around Frankfurt. Today, Final Darkness regularly hosts (on ten third Saturdays a month) the biggest dark party in Frankfurt, featuring four resident DJs with rotating lineups. Furthermore, Final Darkness regularly organizes diverse concerts in collaboration with Das BETT and has become an indispensable reference point. In addition to musical diversity, Final Darkness events stand for openness, tolerance, and respect.

Each floor has its own DJ. The music changes as you move through the building, and the atmosphere with it.

Around them, people were dancing and staying with the music. A lot of the dress belongs to the dark scene. The May edition is the night before this one.

We started while the sky was still useful. Red light came first.

Red is a hard colour on skin, so we moved to green and liked it enough to stay there. A few frames are very close.

Lilac was next, and we made another run of portraits in that light.

The long exposures

The last set is the picture that started the evening. Nin stayed on the bridge, and the cars below turned into lines of light.

A worker from the road site stopped, because people had asked about the strange light on the bridge. We explained, he smiled, and he drove on. Thank you, Nin. I would gladly do this again.
